Measuring Flower Power and Dandy Sandy End Blends

Hello Everyone!
My apologies for not posting the last few days.  So busy with testing at school and houseguests at home!  I finally had a chance today to organize a quick post.  We are in the middle of both a measurement unit in math and a plant unit in science, so I decided to integrate! Love it when it works out! Today the kiddos drew, painted and then labeled a flowering plant including the roots. Then they got to practice using nonstandard measuring units (paperclips) to measure their masterpieces!  They turned out great!!
We are just getting into our unit on soil in science as well. I will post all of our soil activities in the next few days, but until then, today during Daily 5 Word Work, the kids had the opportunity to write their end blend words in sand! They recorded the words practiced on a recording sheet.  I am a firm believer in implementing as many hands on activities as I can into our day.  This activity got the kids into their words in a fun multisensory way and they loved it! Not a lot of prep, or clean up! Hooray!!  I can't wait to see how they do on their spell check tomorrow!!
