Hook Your Reader!

Hello Everyone!

This coming week we are going to work hard on improving our writing by including a "hook" or an effective lead in our pieces. We want to grab our readers and make them want to read the rest of our writing.  I made a quick anchor chart showing the kids many of the different ways to start a piece. I also created a mini poster to hang up along with clarifications. Can't wait to help my kids become even better writers!!

Daily Five Mini Posters

Hello Everyone!
Thanks for the peek!  Today I'm sharing a few of my Daily Five Mini posters.  This unit consists of  a poster for "Urgency," "Ways to Read a Book," "D-5 Check In," and a mini motivational poster. If you have read "The Daily 5" book by Boushey and Moser, you will know what these are all about!  Holler at me if you want further explanation! (I know the posters look like they have a blue background here, but when you print them, they will be white.)

Reading and Writing anchor charts

Hello Everyone!
I thought I would share a couple of our classroom anchor charts.  These were created at the beginning of the year with the kids' help.  We started brainstorming all the different things we read during the day and came up with an amazing list!!  Sometimes I think we forget about the print all around us (environmental print).  Kids are often able to read words like "WalMart" and "Skittles" before they even know many of the sight words we work on daily!  We also made an anchor chart (through the same brainstorming process) about all the things we write during our day.  Again, we take for granted all the writing involved in our daily lives!  It's good to have this visual as a reminder of how important writing is!! Kids have more schema for reading and writing than we realize.  Helping kiddos make connections is so important!
