Beginning of the year Quick Forms

Hello Everyone!!
I am so excited!! Our oldest son is coming home for a visit!!  It seems like forever since we've seen him!! And he's bringing his puppy!!  YAY!! Three ring circus, here we come!!  (We already have 2 dogs and 2 cats!)  Anyway, that's why this post is veeeeeeeery short!  I freshened up my beginning of school quick forms and combined them into a packet.  This packet contains a parent questionnaire, snack info, schedule, behavior chart, wish list and a couple of other things!  Here are a few pics of the 11 page free packet.

Reading- The School/Home Connection

Hello Everyone!
I have had many second grade teachers contact me about our home reading log and parent/child questions to accompany reading. Reading at home is a huge component in reading success.  I have shared our first grade log before, but I went ahead and added a second grade component to this little packet. We require our first graders to read at least ten minutes every evening. I included a note to parents about second graders reading twenty minutes.  Take a peek!

Ready to Read at Home!!

Hello Everyone!

We believe that the more time spent with books in the hands of our young readers, the greater progress we'll see in their growth as readers.  We also believe with our whole hearts in the home / school connection.  We recommend that our firsties read for at least 10 minutes every evening.  Tomorrow is the day when we will begin sending home books for our kids to read to parents. They will be "just right" books which they have each selected. 

Over the years I have had many parents tell me they aren't sure what to work on, or what to do when their child misses a word, or doesn't understand something.  I have reworked my "Reading With Your Child" note for parents to include what to do before, during , and after the read. I will be sending this home along with the first home reader, and the reading log.

Reading With Your Child

Hello Everyone,
Ways to become a better reader??  Read, read, read, read.  We've all heard that, but I think there is more to it...talk, talk, talk, talk.  Someone once told me that learning floats on a sea of talk.  I believe this to be true!  Classrooms are noisy places, especially when it comes to reading! Talking about reading is a must!  Today I want to share a little printable that helps parents in talking about the books they read with their kids.  I love the book "Catching Readers Before They Fall" by Pat Johnson and Katie Keier.  The list of parent tips was adapted from that wonderful resource.  Let's get those kids talking!!!
