Let It Snow!

Hello Everyone!!
Happy New Year!!!  My wish for you in this coming year is that you find some joy in every day!  I get so much joy creating hands on curriculum for young learners which will engage their hands and minds!! Today I want to share a little unit that uses snow and snowmen for inspiration.  My apologies to my Australian and other friends who are in the middle of summer right now, but maybe you can save this for another time in your year! :) This little unit is loaded with 80 pages of ELA, Math, and Science activities--whole group and independent, including my new favorite way to reinforce retelling!! Boot Scootin' Learnin"

Hello Everyone!
So sorry it's been a while since  my last post. I have been busy working on a wedding for my dear friend's son.  It is going to be beautiful!! I almost wish I would have chosen party planning as a career, but then again, I would have missed out on all this teaching fun!!
The end of February and early March are wonderful times in Texas.  We always spend a lot of time learning about our state. I decided to create a unit to go along with our already integrated reading and social studies curriculum. I wanted some math, writing and even some science, so this is what I came up with.  I do plan on adding a bit more, but we want to get started with all the learning next week, so I had to quick publish and get it ready.

Winter Olympics!!

Hello Everyone!!
They're almost here!!  The Winter Olympic Games!!  I love watching every part of every event!  The dedication and passion that each athlete displays is at times mind-boggling!  They are all winners just for being there!
I have gotten several e-mails asking if I would create a unit on the Olympics.  I had some time today to put a few things together.  This little unit includes some ELA activities using Tacky and the Winter Games by Helen Lester (Love Tacky!!),  6 math tub activities, and a hands on visual connection!  I hope you can use at least a portion of this!  I think I'm going to enjoy helping kids make this important world connection. Here are a few pics of the 45 page unit!

Compound Word Snowball Fight!

Hello Everyone!
Thanks for stopping by for a quick peek into our first grade world!  Some may say we're having way too much fun in first grade, but I am a firm believer in incorporating as many senses and learning styles as possible into as many mini lessons as I can!  So, yes!  We're having another snowball fight!! We had so much fun with our 2 digit addition snowball fight the other day in math, I thought it would be fun to try it with compound words. It was a hit! I simply gave each kiddo half of a compound word written on plain white paper. They crumpled the paper like a snowball, and tossed it into the air!  On my count, they had to find someone else's "snowball" open it up and then find the match to their word. So fun! A quick, easy, and very fun review of compound words.
