Gathering, Graphing, and Growing

Hello Everyone!
I hope you are having a great weekend.  This week we will begin our graphing unit in math.  First graders will learn all about gathering data or surveying, organizing data and analyzing data. We will work on a couple of whole class graphs, practice graphing in math tubs and then create our own survey questions.  From those questions kids will gather their own data, and decide how to display and what to analyze. I put together a little mini unit to help me stay organized as we delve into this important skill. Here are a few pics. You may notice that there are a lot of references to Texas topics, but the unit includes open ended opportunities as well.

I also wanted you to know that I have fixed typos, inaccuracies,  and added a few more math games and other fun activities to a unit I've posted before...

Now off to plan my observation lesson. Yikes!  Even after all these years, I still get a teeny bit nervous about evaluations.  Oh well, I guess that means I care about how I am doing and how my kids are learning! Right?
Till next time, thanks for stopping by for a peek!! Enjoy your week!! Stop by again soon!
Joyfully!
Nancy

  1. This is great, Nancy! Though I live in KS, this unit gives me a great jumping off point---with many completely usable pages----for where to start with my kiddos! Love the survey pages at the end where students can creat their own graphing data!!! Awesome stuff:)

Nancy I just love your work! I follow you by email so I often forget to actually visit the blog and comment. I've been meaning to let you know that there is a typo on your tapatan games. In the Boot Scootin' unit it is called "Scoot Your Boots" (my kids loooove these btw!) anyhoo...the directions say no jumping "aloud"instead of "allowed". I couldn't find your email on the blog so I'm letting you know here. No biggie for me but thought you'd like to know! :) Love your joy-filled sharing!
