Snowmen at Night- Let's Play!

Hello Everyone!!

Happy Holidays, all!! I hope your's were all you wanted, needed, and more!!  I was able to spend so much quality time with my family, it was all I needed to rejuvenate after a very busy fall semester. 2019 is going to be a wonder-filled year as we welcome a new member to our family!  My son finally proposed to his long time girlfriend and she said, "YES!' We are so excited!!  We love her already and considered her a part of the family years ago, but now it's going to be official!

There are also some exciting professional things going on in my life, too,  so stay tuned for that news! :)

I get a ton of e-mail about the fact that my units include a lot of games and fun stuff.  I KNOW!!  I truly believe that kids are so much more engaged in their learning when they are "playing!"  It's a wonderful thing!  Six year olds are not wired to sit still at a desk and just listen to the teacher and fill out worksheets.  (Adults aren't either, for that matter!) Of course there has to be some "sit still and listen," but not exclusively, by any means!
As I was thinking about this last week, I inspired to create this ultra mini unit using the book, Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner.  It's one of my favorite books to read in January. I usually just read and discuss, maybe do a quick response, but this year I wanted to add a bit more. So here you go! Let's PLAY! :) I especially can't wait to do the potato print snowmen with the kids!!

Gotta love some Mr. Rogers!!

All directions to create this are included in the unit!

If you are interested in a little "playing around,"

Well, my winter break is just about over, so I guess I better go knock some "to do's" off my list!!  Here's wishing you a wonder-filled and playful week back!  Thanks for stopping by this little "Window on Wonder!"
Joyfully!

Let it Snow 2018 and 100th Day 2018

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post.  I had full intentions of posting during our winter break, but I had so much family stuff going on. We did a ton of cooking, movie watching, game playing, furniture refinishing, pantry organizing, and just plain chillin'! I loved every single minute of it. It was all low key, but it was the best!
I want to share a couple of pics of our Grinch day! It was so fun and the kids had a blast! We got to do almost everything in my unit! Take a peek!

Such a fun day, and the kids did do a little learning along the way!!! :)

Last week was a review week in science, so we decided that because of the "chance" of snow, we needed to do a fun activity to celebrate snow!
While thinking about that, my awesome teammate mentioned that you could get snowballs at the local Bahama Buck's, a shaved ice place.  Genius!!!
So, of course, I went a got some!!
For these little Texas kids who don't see snow very often, I knew they were going to love anything we did to go along with snowballs!! I made up a quick little science review experience.

Kids loved the science activity and review, and loved working with snowballs (thanks to Bahama Bucks!) cause it never did snow! :(   Maybe this week!! :)
I know a lot of you are getting way more snow than you ever wanted (thinking about you all!!) so you probably don't even want to consider any kind of snow science, but give it a try anyway!!! You won't need to go buy your snowballs!

I have included this little activity in my snow unit. Other fun things included are...

Coming up soon is our 100th day of school!  I added a couple of things to my unit!

OK!!!  This post was a little longer than I meant for it to be, but considering I haven't posted in a while, I guess that's alright. I'll be back soon!!!  Thanks for your patience and thanks for stopping by!!
Have a wonderful week!!
Joyfully!
Nancy

Snowballs!!

Hello Everyone!
Hope everyone had a great weekend, and perhaps a long weekend.  We actually had a teacher inservice day today. Kids had off, but we as teachers got a lot done organizationally!  Checked a few things off our growing list of things to do this semester. How often does that happen, right?
Over the weekend, I had a chance to work on a little fun unit with a snowball theme. It started off as a little study on adverbs which is an objective we are covering this week, but it started growing and growing.  It actually snowballed!! Teehee! Anyway, I'm posting it tonight in case you need a little snowball fun in your week. I know some of you are probably soooooo tired of snow, but our little Texas kids can't get enough!
Here are a few pics of the 60 page unit.

This is a small sample of what the unit includes,  I can't wait to enjoy it with my kids starting tomorrow!!  I'll let you know how it goes!!
If you would like to try some of the snowball fun...

I can't wait to show you how the kids are doing on our poetry unit!  We have been so excited to become poets!!! That update is coming soon!!

Have a great week everyone!!! Don't forget to look for the joy in every day!!
Thanks for stopping by our little window!!
Joyfully!
Nancy
