Lost my reading buddy today...

Hello Everyone,
My heart is so sad. We lost our big ol' yellow Labrador retriever, Beemer today.  I went outside to feed him this morning and he was "asleep" under the magnolia tree in the backyard.  I'm not sure why I felt like I had to share this with all of you, (I don't normally share personal things here) other than the feeling I have in my heart is one that I will use in relating to my students when sad things happen to them.  Pets are a huge part of our lives and we do actually love them so much.  I have shared these pictures with my kids and they know how much my family and I loved Beemer. I write about him all the time during draft book time. Kids need to know that teachers are humans with families, homes, pets, and feelings. We really don't sleep at school.

 I will miss my buddy!
N

  11. WOW I've been there to many times!
I am so sorry I know first hand what a big hole is left in your heart at a time like this.
We always said that you have to transfer all that love you have for the pet to a new pet.
Do you think you will get a new puppy?
Again, thanks for sharing...it is fun to "know" someone through their wonderful willing to share nature that you have. You really work tirelessly to help other teachers..so thanks for that too.

  17. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your beloved Beemer. Those who have never owned or loved a pet have missed out on a very wonderful part of life. You know the old saying, "Diamonds are a girls best friend, has never owned a pet" is so true. Hang in there Nancy.

  23. Dear Nancy~
The loss of your reading buddy is so sad. When I lost my buddy after 15 years, the poem that helped me so much was The Rainbow Bridge.

  28. It is so hard to lose our "four-legged children"! Ever since growing up, our dogs have always been parts of our family!

Have you read Dog Heaven? It is a wonderfully reassuring book for those of us who are left after our dog's passing.
